Like most dog owners, you are asking what do I do to get my dog to stop barking? There are many techniques on how to make a dog stop barking. As an owner of a pet myself, I tried everything to get my dog to stop barking. The traditional methods seemed to work for a limited time, but after a while the dog just went back to its old habits. Since I really wanted to get my dog to stop barking I went on the search to find how to make a dog stop barking. If you are a concerned dog owner such as myself, you will be asking these questions. There are many solutions, and these will be covered in turn.
Firstly, there are various dog collars and sprays which can be used. Unfortunately, if your dog is older these may not be as effective as training your dog when it is young. The most important part of how to make a dog stop barking is training your dog. Although sprays may work in certain situations it does not avoid the underlying problems such as dog anxiety which causes the barking problems.
Secondly, you can send your dog to obedience training. This can vary in effectiveness and can be costly for many people, I didnt use this to get my dog to stop barking, but many have. If you have a puppy it is most effective, and most of these obedience classes are designed for young dogs. There are cheaper classes for puppies, sometimes referred to as puppy preschools where you and your dog go and learn the basics of obedience training and pet socialization (including how to make a dog stop barking) which often prevents problems such as barking happening later down the track. If you have an older dog sometimes you will need specialized obedience classes for problem dogs; these are likely to cost more money and be a lot more straining on your and your pets time, particularly when you are trying to address how to make a dog stop barking.
Third and finally, you can undertake the obedience training yourself. This is what I did to get my dog to stop barking. This is by far the most effective way as unlike obedience training which often leaves you out of the picture, if you do the obedience training yourself, you will be the one the dog listens to when you are trying to make a dog stop barking. Getting the knowledge to get my dog to stop barking was simple, I used a guide I purchased on the internet, but there are many paths that you can take to train your own dog. In the end, this is the cheapest, most effective and amazingly, the least time consuming of the lot. I have bred dogs for years and used various methods, but now all I do is train my own dogs with a few proven techniques provided by experts.
If you are ever asking how do I get my dog to stop barking, next time consider some simple training steps, it will save you the time, hassle and money; and in my experience is the best method out there.

One interest I always had was training dogs with or without behavioural problems. When I was a baby in arms my family always had a relatively large dog. Maybe it just seemed like that because I was so small back then. Sometimes our dogs had behavioural problems such as excessive barking, jumping up and running wild. The first I remember was Floss, a sheepdog who was a really exciting fellow indeed. He was predominantly white with some black and tan highlights thrown in for distraction.
Anyway when I was eleven years old and was on summer vacation from school the whole family went to my Mothers home place in rural Ireland for a the summer months. One day while on my regular rounds around the local town visiting cousins friends and acquaintances didnt I hear the barking of what I discovered to be a lovely dog. He was an Irish red setter. Wow, I thought, I would love that fine looking dog. His name was Bruno and was owned by the local police sergeant. To my utter surprise it turned out that sergeant Lowery was willing to sell the barking dog and within thirty minutes of spotting the lovely dog I had arranged to buy him for six pounds. My first ever serious purchase. Wow, I was delighted.
I now had to run home to tell my parents whom to my dismay seemed to take the news as though I was always as entitled as the next to conduct such negotiations without question. I was concerned that they would be concerned as regards strange dogs behavioral problems. But no there was no such concern. I do seem to remember having to arrange an advance on my pocket money or some such issue. But it was sure worth it to have such a fine dog, and all the family seemed very happy with the new addition to the household. I remember wondering how the dog knew that he was mine. He took to me so well and also I to him. I was the master and he was my new companion. I surely was proud.
I remember even my Father deciding that he better bring the dog home to Dublin ahead of the rest of us just to settle him in at home before we all returned for the new school term. Of course it was just that Dad wanted to be first to sport the new great dog around the parish in view of all the jealous locals. Dad was proud of the new addition too. That was easy to tell. By the time I got home to Dublin that September Dad had changed the dogs name from Bruno to Bran, saying that that was a more fitting name for a mature looking dog. I think my Dad didnt like the dogs name to remind him of the like named pipe tobacco regularly advertised on TV. He was always very anti smoking.
Anyway no sooner did I settle back to city life then I started to train Bran to my liking. Sit, lie down, stay, fetch, heel and sit up were the commands that I centered on. Bran was more than happy to oblige. He was so happy to be told what I wanted him to do and also he was happier to understand each different order. Eventually he literally went on the jumping through hoola hoops. I know that is not what the inventor intended for his novel product but I found a new purpose for it.
Of course I took to dog training my dogs like a duck to water. Since those days I have always had one or more dogs. Since then I can list an Irish Red Setter, a Doberman, an Afghan Hound and also, what is now my favourite breed of all, a number of German Shepard dogs. German Shepards are so keen to learn to please their master by obeying their every command. Actually nearly every breed of dog is that way inclined, if treated well by responsible owners.
Dogs can start of by having behavioral problems. But if such behavioral problems are caught early by understanding masters and owners, then there is no problem in the long run. I really enjoyed training my dogs to behave in an ideal manner and advice on such matters is always an advantage. A properly behaved and responsive dog is worth its weight in gold. A properly trained dog is a great personal asset as regards companionship and security. And remember that owning a dog is a very real responsibility.

Dekka (not pictured above, thats Kat) is being uber needy these days. I think she knows its agility season. She is normally such a calm and serious dog. She has been down right silly lately. Even to the point of rrrring and trying to play with me in the mornings!! Once outside she does that silly run, with the sideways ears, bouncing back end and circles. She zooms through the barn doing laps. This is so not my dog. Cant wait till things are a little drier and I will start actually doing some agility here. Should help. I hope.
Kat is being a pain these days. Ahh the teenage stage. She has very selective hearing and next to no recall when outside. So no outside the yard being free time for her! She really wants to go over and play with the chain dogs at the shop next door. Which sucks as the gate is locked and I cant go in and get her. She is now trying door dashing to see how it works for her. We havent had a door dasher in a while so its been hard for Darien and Mark to remember when going in and out.
Its most frustrating, but thinking back Dekka went through similar stages so I still have very high hopes for the problem child.

Hi,
no new tips today but a picture from my dog. It is a "Deutsch Drahthaar". A German hunting dog. She is a female and her name is Afra. Soon she will be 7 years old. So, she is an older dog but very active which is typical for those kinds of dogs.

Yes there are 2x2s in my tiny living room. 2 2x2s to be exact. I promised an update..
Kat and Sport are learning them correctly and its been going well. I have done more work with Kat than Darien has with Sport, but Sport is so smart its like he studies it in between sessions. Kat is now finding the entrance on both sets rotated slightly greater than 45 degrees. I was throwing a ball to get her to drive away. Note: The speckly one has a natural retrieve! She brought it back to me every time.
I had started shaping Bounce so she is learning them in a modified way. She is happily going through the same set up as Kat but with more dependence on my body language.
I have been tweaking Kaiden and Dekkas weave pole work. Kaiden seem to have learnt back when that you enter the weaves between the handler and the pole. So if I try to off side weave he enters wrong. So I have just been sending him too a single 2x2 and rewarding for finding the right entrance. With Dekka I have been working on her finding the entrance when sent at crazy angles.
Cant wait for the snow to go.. Only how many more months yet?

Nothing will make your dog want to move away from you more than jerking the leash and dragging him. If your dog lags, be careful not to reinforce this behavior by giving him attention when he stops. Instead, stand still facing away from your dog and put gentle pressure on the leash and wait. Praise your dog if he moves even one inch to come towards you.
Alternatively, go to the end of the leash and kneel down facing away from your dog and wait for your dog to come to you, praising him all the way.
It does not matter how long it takes for him to start walking, (although it should not be more than a minute or two), he eventually will. Then, walk another few feet away and repeat if he stops.
If your dog is afraid of leash walking, you will need to take him out for numerous confidence building training sessions on leash. You do not want to take him with you on an errand when you may be in a hurry and get frustrated with your dog. Once you have taken the time to teach your dog to enjoy leash walking, he can come along with you on all your errands.
